New York Fashion Week is about to end, but what should we expect to see in London next week?

From 6-13 February fashion designers flocked to New York City to show off their brand-new collections for Spring/Summer 2020. At the time of writing, many of them are flying over the Atlantic in readiness for London Fashion Week which opens on Saturday 15th February.

This season, echoes of the 1980s were a prominent trend at NYFW, represented in the exaggerated shoulders of Pyer Moss, and the over-the top-fringe by Christian Siriano and Zimmermann.

There was plenty of neon, from highlighter hues rendered in minimalist silhouettes to dressed up shades by Helmut Lang and Tom Ford. They transformed the runway into a trip to the future!

Americana was also evident, as in blue denim and cowboy outfits. Also a hankering for high society, discernible in bubble hems slashed with velvet Capri and Bermuda shorts.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the pond… It’s now traditional for London Fashion Week to go against tradition. We can expect the likes of Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood to experiment with ‘race’ and body sizes, characters and silhouettes.

If people were surprised by NYFW, maybe they will think they are in a fashion fantasy when it comes to London. The British Fashion Council has drawn up a schedule of activities that includes 78 brands, 103 stores and 346 events taking place between Friday 14th and Tuesday 18th February.

Designers like Victoria Beckham, Richard Quinn and Edeline Lee will attend London Fashion Week and every fashionista will tune in to admire their new collections!
