Sergio Garcia (29-0) has successfully defended his EBU Super-Welterweight Title after beating Ted Cheeseman by unanimous decision at the O2 Arena on Saturday.

Different Levels

The Spaniard controlled the bout throughout winning 115-114 and 119-109 119-109 on the judges’ scorecards.

With victory getting out of reach for Cheeseman, the Bermondsey-born fighter began taking risks leading to damage to his nose and left eye.

The super-welterweight moves to (15-1) with the loss and still remains British Super-Welterweight champion, a belt he won against Asinia Byfield back in October at the Copper Box Arena.

The 23-year-old nicknamed ‘The Big Cheese’ was eyeing a domestic showdown with rival Anthony Fowler but after this loss the fight looks unlikely in the near future.

Fowler (9-0) who will take on fellow unbeaten Scott Fitzgerald (12-0) on March 30th, was at ringside for the fight and was disappointed to see Cheeseman lose.

After the contest Fowler said about Cheeseman on twitter that “you have to earn your stripes in this sport”.

With the win, 26-year-old Garcia moves to (29-0) and establishes himself as a true contender in a stacked Super-Welterweight division which involves champions Jarrett Hurd and Jaime Munguia.

Okolie and Camacho To Square It Off

On the undercard, Craig Richards (14-1) defeated domestic rival Jake Ball (12-2) in devastating fashion, knocking him down three times to win WBA Continental Light-Heavyweight Title.

The bout, which was seen as a must-win for both boxers will likely see Richards joining the big domestic names at Light-Heavyweight with potentials contests with Hosea Burton and Joshua Buatsi.

Lawrence Okolie also returned to action on the undercard with a convincing win over Tamas Ladi.

The cruiserweight faced criticism after his last fight against Matty Askin, but a performance including four knockdowns answered those that questioned him.

Shortly after the contest, Eddie Hearn announced that Okolie will take on Wadi Camacho (21-7) for the British and Commonwealth Cruiserweight titles at the Copper Box Arena on the undercard of Charlie Edwards’ WBC World Flyweight defence against Angel Moreno.

Felix Cash won his second belt of his career as he blasted through Nigerian-born Rasheed Abolaji in just one round.

The 25-year-old, now 11-0, adds the Commonwealth title to his collection that also includes the WBC International Silver Middleweight Title.

There was also a victory for Scott Fitzgerald, who had a warm-up fight before taking on Anthony Fowler after suffering a recent hand injury.

Fabio Wardley, John Docherty and Dana Zaxo also picked up victories in convincing fashion.
