Turley Sets Sights On Football League Return

Leyton Orient new boy Jamie Turley is hoping the O's can push on after netting his first goal for the club in the FA Trophy on Saturday. Daniel McNeil reports.

Jamie Turley is aiming high as he settles in to life with his new side, Leyton Orient. The defender, previously at Notts County, believes the O’s can see out the campaign and gain promotion back to the Football League.

Speaking after his sides’ 1-0 triumph against Blyth Spartans, Turley aims to play a major role in Orient’s promotion charge:

“Team goal is to get promoted, personal goal is to play as many games and be a part of that promotion winning team.”

Good Attitude

After Orient laboured to a narrow win against lower-league opposition, Turley commended his sides’ performance:

“I think it was professional, we had to give them a bit of respect.”

Knowing the opposition would be fired up, Turley was keen to ensure Orient focused on their own showing while praising Blyth’s work rate:

“They worked hard. We just had to make sure we played our game and composed ourselves.”

Having scored the decisive goal in a tightly contested affair, Turley described his thoughts leading up to the winner:

“I just stood there and thought I’m going to head it, that’s the same when I attack most things.”

Seamless Transition

After dropping down a league, many would have expected Turley to be a dominant force in an unpredictable league.

When asked about the transition to non-league football, the centre back was full of praise for the Vanarama National League:

“There isn’t too much in it, the sides I’ve been at have all been good sides, and I believe that the top seven teams could quite easily play in League Two.”

Fresh Challenge

Orient now progress to the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy, where they face Brackley Town away from home with Wembley on the horizon.
