It has been confirmed that GB athlete CJ Ujah has been banned for 22 months after testing positive for Ostarine and S-23.

The ban has been backdated to 6th August 2021 and will end on 5th June 2023, where he will be allowed to compete again.

Stripped

Ujah’s case affects not just himself, but his teammates who were stripped off their men’s Olympic 4×100 silver medals in Tokyo.

Richard Kilty said he will “never forgive” his teammate. “What he has done has been reckless.” Kilty added.

Zharnel Hughes and Nathaneel Mitchell-Blake – his other fellow teammates – were also in the relay in Tokyo alongside Ujah.

‘Regret’

The British athlete apologised to his teammates who he has not seen since the news broke after the Olympic games. He said, he had “unknowingly consumed a contaminated substance and he would regret it for the rest of his life.”

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) and World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) cleared Ujah of deliberately taking prohibited drugs.

“In this case, after a thorough examination of the facts, we were satisfied that Mr Ujah did indeed ingest a contaminated supplement, but he was unable to demonstrate that he was entitled to any reduction in the application period on ineligibility on his level of Fault.”

Argue

CJ Ujah did not argue with this decision over his violation and will wait for his ban to be over just some time after June, where the season will prudently be season openers for some top athletes.

The World Championships in Budapest next August is estimated to be where Ujah is looking to compete in as his ban expires a few months before the competition.
