Fisher and visitors Kennington played out one of the games of the season in a 3-3 draw with Fisher coming from behind on two occasions.

It’d been a difficult spell for Fisher, coming off the back of two defeats at the hands of basement side Lordswood and most recently a poor 3-0 defeat to Rusthall.

Manager Ajay Ashanike will have been delighted with what he saw in the opening exchanges against Kennington. Full of pressing off the ball and purpose with it, Fisher started on the front foot and got their reward just 13 minutes in.

Fisher Dominance

Fisher goalkeeper Tommy Taylor delivered an incredible kick that found its way over the Kennington backline to send left winger Fejzi through one on one, the wide-man showed great composure to loft the ball over the keeper as the ball bounced up and give Fisher a deserved lead.

The rest of the half saw Fisher continue to dominate. Thompson up front was causing the Kennington defence no ends of problems, having multiple chances to double Fisher’s lead throughout the opening half. The best of which came after a mistake from the backline led to Thompson bearing down on goal only to see his deflected shot tipped wide by Kennington keeper Joe Mant.

Fisher and Thompson were denied once again, this time by the crossbar, full-back Luke Thomas put in an excellent cross that was met well by Thompson who glanced his header expertly towards goal only for the woodwork to save Kennington.

Football often works in cruel ways and the end of the first half was no different for Fisher. Kennington grabbed their equaliser on the stroke of half-time after barely having a kick throughout. Winger Meziane probably couldn’t believe his luck as he was left completely unmarked 20 yards out on the right hand side, a clipped long ball found him, and he made no error in firing a brilliant half volley into the bottom corner to give Kennington a lifeline going into halftime.

Second-Half Frenzy

The opening exchanges of the second half were more even, and it was Kennington who took advantage first. A corner from the right was met at the near post by Clarke who nodded home to give the visitors the lead.

Having failed to convert from inside the box all evening Thompson decided to treat the Fisher faithful behind the goal to a goal of the season contender. 30-yards out Thompson unleashed a rocket that flew into the top left corner, Mant managed to get a hand to it but there was no stopping it.

Kennington once again found themselves in the lead. A gift at the back with a defensive mix up saw veteran midfielder Clarke race through one and one and calmly convert.

There was one final twist in what was a true advert for the brilliance of non-league football. After searching for the equaliser, Fisher finally had it, in the 82nd minute.

A long throw from left-back Temi Oladejo caused confusion in the box, Kennington’s centre-back Tommy Penfold could only half clear the ball with a poor header. It fell perfectly for substitute Esteban Salgado who cut across the ball sweetly on the half volley and fired into the roof of the net, sending the Dockers End wild.

A thrilling contest from both sides, Fisher will likely feel disappointed not to come away with all three points on the evening.

Fisher are at home again Saturday where they face 17th placed Canterbury City.
