In his second year in charge, Greenway’s team are currently four games into the season, having won three and falling short against Essex last Wednesday.

Despite the defeat, the goals for this season still remain the same. Greenway said: “We want to win the South Premier and we want to get to the finals of the BUCS champions.

“The goals don’t change, it’s the process that we go through to get there. I also think we have more depth this year than we had last year, which is good because we’re going to need that as we continue through the season.

Successful Recruitment

“I now have guys that are going to be committed to how I want them to play and that is on me to get them to that high level. Across the board we have players of the same stature that can provide more”, said Greenway.

The team has gone through a busy summer break with Greenway bringing in new faces to strengthen the squad.

Captain, Tyler Johnson, praised Greenway and thinks the relationship between coach and the players is a very strong one.

“Out of every coach I’ve had so far, I would say Dave is probably the calmest. He does like to shout, but he is a coach that you can pull to the side and have a conversation with.

“If you feel like you’ve made a mistake or can improve, you’re able to have that conversation with him and he’ll explain to you either why he’s pulled you out from the squad or how to go forward”, said Johnson.

Aiming High

With that, Greenway’s side are beginning to mould into a team that he was looking for and the coach has full say on who he brings in.

“Coach Dave has definitely put his imprint on the team this year. A lot of guys were coming in from a different time. Now we’re at a point where everyone knows what everyone does and it’s a lot different to last year. I would say we have upgraded, but definitely better than last year,” Johnson added.

UEL will be looking to go one better this season by winning the BUCS Championship after losing in the final last season.
