West Ham could secure qualification for the Europa Conference League knockout stage with a win over Belgian side Anderlecht.
Recent Form
The Hammers currently sit at the top of Group B and are currently one of three teams to have won all their group stages matches and will be looking to make it four on Thursday night.
The Irons emerged victorious in the reverse fixture last Thursday with Gianluca Scamacca scoring the only goal of the game in Anderlecht. This win came part of three game winning streak for West Ham, last beating Fulham 3-1 at the London Stadium to jump to 13th in the Premier League.
Anderlecht currently sit ninth place in the Belgian Pro League second in the Europa Conference League Group B, five points behind West Ham. The Belgian side are also coming off a 3-1 win at the weekend, beating K.V. Mechelen.
Super Scamacca
Summer signing Scamacca has been the star player for the Hammers in Europe. The Italian has scored four goals in five European games so far. West Ham manager David Moyes has said he’s been impressed by the forward “from day one”.
“He had a virus at the start, so it’s taken us a bit of time to get him going. The version we’ve got at the moment has done really good, but we think he can go even better.”
Team News
Moyes is likely to make several changes from the side that beat Fulham. The Scotsman made nine changes to his side for last Thursday’s European clash.
Michail Antonio didn’t train with the team on Wednesday morning due to illness, leaving his status for selection questionable.
Thursday might have also come too early for Maxwel Cornet, who is still recovering from a calf injury, while Nayef Aguerd remains side-lined following his ankle injury in pre-season.
Ex-Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen could return for Anderlecht after illness kept him out of the side last Thursday.
