It Only Works If We Work Together

Nearly eight weeks in and many of us have had more than enough of lockdown. But now is NOT the time to ignore social distancing rules.

Having spoken to people in various parts of the country, I’ve heard tales of lounging around in parks, meeting up with people definitely not from your household, and generally disregarding the measures we have been instructed to follow.

Yes, we’re all going stir crazy by now but we still need to be observing lockdown rules or it won’t work!

Some have become complacent, thinking it’ll be alright just to see a few friends. That’s not the point. If you spend six weeks on lockdown and then leave your house, within a few minutes you are no more immune than when it all started.

All the work we put in up until this point is for naught if people break ranks and abandon self-discipline. Furthermore, by seeing people from multiple households the risk of cross infection is drastically increased. You may not have become ill yourself but you could pass the virus on to others or your own family, meaning that your actions could cause those closest to you to become sick!

The rest of Europe is recovering and returning to normal. But we don’t get to do that yet because our government was too late to react. If we begin to take matters into our own hands then we will find ourselves in lockdown for longer, and people will continue to die.
