London Helvecia player Max Kilman has defended his decision to join the club from Genesis last summer, following criticisms about the amount of England Internationals at Helvecia.

Helvecia have been accused of taking players in and around the England set-up, making it difficult for other clubs to keep their top players. Along with Kilman, Helvecia have also brought in young and established England players such as Doug Reed, Richard Ward, Liam Palfreeman and James Webb, as well as the core of England players that they already had at the club.

However, despite the negativity from some critics, Kilman still believes that he made the right choice in switching clubs, claiming it benefits both him and the national side.

England Expects

“A lot of my England teammates currently play for Helvecia and I thought it would be better for my personal development to be around my teammates to help us to kick on and progress when playing for England.

“We’re more integrated, we’re together, we speak to each other off the pitch so we’re always in contact. I think it helps us to understand each other more and improve our chemistry.”

Kilman also responded to the suggestion that having a club set up in this way is unfair on other teams, as it makes it difficult for some sides to keep hold of their stars. He claims that the decision to join Helvecia is completely down to the individuals.

English Core

“Before, there was a core of English players already at Helvecia and I think since then there has been a few more players that have decided to join the club. I think it’s more of a personal thing, they wanted to join to improve the chemistry within the team but it’s nothing personal against other players. Some players are playing at other clubs and that’s not a problem.”

Helvecia currently sit one point behind Reading Escolla in the league with six games remaining in their quest to win the title. Having won their last seven games, Helvecia will be growing evermore confident of yet another title.

“We’ve played Escolla twice now, beating them 10-2 in the last game so there’s a lot of belief in the squad. It’s basically down to how we play until the end of the season now. If we keep playing the way we have been, and we haven’t lost for a while now, then we’ll collect as many points as possible and see what happens. I’m confident that we can do it, but you never know what can happen.”
