Shipping Lanes To South Ken

Some of the world’s most glamorous ships have sailed through East London down the Thames, and you can currently experience some of the luxury we associate with these vessels at the Ocean Liners: Speed and Style exhibition on at The Victoria and Albert Museum until June 17th.

For £18 visitors can take a look at paintings, photographs and furniture found in celebrated ships such as the Canberra, the Normandie, the Queen Mary and of course the Titanic,  including a fragment of a wooden overdoor panel from the doomed ship’s first class lounge. You can also watch excerpts from documentaries about some of the most famous liners.

And don’t forget about fashion! Exhibits embrace the work of greats such as Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior and include a Dior day suit worn by Marlene Dietrich on the day she arrived in New York on the Queen Mary.
