The Daggers conceded a late equaliser to League Two side Gillingham in the second round of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.

A Fairly Played First Half

Both sides started the game well in the opening stages, but it was Gillingham who had the first chance of the match when midfielder Dom Jefferies played in Mikael Mandron who only had the keeper to beat, but the forward lost his footing and squandered the chance.

Junior Morias was the first to test Gills keeper Jake Turner when he drove through the heart of the visitors’ midfield and struck an effort destined for the top corner, but Turner dived high to his left to deny the number 24.

Dagenham had the majority of the chances in the opening 20 minutes with the best one falling to Josh Walker, who found space just inside the box before he rushed his effort and missed the target.

A Bitter Sweet Second Half for Dagenham

In the second half the Daggers continued to create chances but struggled to find the breakthrough as Junior Morias went close again, this time from a free kick that sailed just wide of the post.

Gillingham grew into the game and threatened the Daggers goal when a goal-mouth scramble was desperately cleared away by defender Manny Onariase.

With 10 minutes left on the clock the deadlock was broken. Walker brought down a long ball by Mo Sagaf and produced a bit of magic to nutmeg the Gills defender and slot home from close range to give the Daggers the lead.

Two minutes into stoppage time though, the Gills found an equaliser, substitute Scott Kashket got across his man at the near post and finished high into the roof of the net to force a replay.

Manager Daryl McMahon was left Frustrated

“[It was a] Disappointment to concede the goal in the last few minutes, and it was disappointing because I don’t think we deserved to draw the game I thought we deserved to win with the performance we gave.”
