It was on 95 minutes when former Lionesses player Rianna Dean scored the winner, moments after her old side had equalised.

The result means Tottenham now go four points clear at the top of the FA Women’s Championship, while Millwall are still searching for their first win of the season and sit bottom of the table in 11th.

The story on Sunday was much different to a few months ago when the Lionesses suffered a huge 8-0 defeat away to Tottenham.

This time round the winning goal came in the dying seconds of the game, leaving Millwall with nothing to show after a tightly contested match.

Both teams prepare for kick-off

Spurs Start Strong

Tottenham started the game off strong with numerous attempts on goal, but the home side came back at them with a strong resistance and kept getting the ball cleared out of the box.

With pressure building from the visitors Chloe Sansom was a crucial part of Spurs not taking an early lead again.

Sarah Wiltshire opened the scoring on 36 minutes for Tottenham, but the hosts were soon to equalise.

Less than ten minutes later, Lionesses top goal scorer Evie Clarke gained possession and made the long run from the halfway line to slot the ball past Chloe Morgan.

The second half saw both sides come out looking eager to get the win. Tottenham were threatening the Millwall defense constantly, looking to find another goal to secure the three points.

Debut Delight

In the closing stages of the game both sides ramped up the pressure. Tottenham’s new signing Emma Beckett found the back of the net on 84 minutes to score her debut goal for the club and give them the lead.

Millwall were not giving up easily, with Beth Lumsden getting on the end of the Lionesses free kick to head it past Morgan to equalise and bring the score to 2-2 on 90 minutes.

Last Second Drama

Five minutes of injury time added, and Tottenham were still playing for the victory. One final push from them saw Dean score their third goal with seconds left on the clock to secure the win and a massive three points.

After the game Dean reflected on the game and commended her former side: “It was quite a tough game, credit to Millwall they’ve improved massively over the break we’ve had. We always knew it was going to be tough.”

Dean also praised Tottenham for their fighting mentality and determination which ultimately lead them to victory:

“We kept fighting, we kept going to the end and I think that work just shows stuff we do in the training ground and the fight we have in our team just shows no matter what is put up against us ,we can still put in the performances.”

Next weekend sees a break in the Championship fixtures while the FA Cup fourth round takes place. This sees Millwall Lionesses back at home up against Lewes Women on Sunday 3rd February, with kick off at 2pm.
