The London Lions will look to bounce back from a disappointing defeat to the Leicester Riders over the weekend, as they battle with the Newcastle Eagles away from home on Friday.

Leader Of The Pack

The Lions, current BBL champions, fell to the Riders which left their record at seven wins and two losses, but they are still seated at the top of the table, ahead of the Glasgow Rocks.

All eyes are set for the showdown in Newcastle when two of the very best teams in the BBL go head-to-head for the first time this season.

It’s been a close season to say the least which has made for a very interesting season in the eyes of most with all the marbles still to be played for.

The fixture sees the first seed Lions take on third seed Eagles (five wins, three losses) with only four points separating them.

The Lions’ opponents come into this game on the back of a loss to Worcester Wolves, losing 77-72 in a nailbiter.

Superstar Match-Up

It was also the debut of newly acquired Eagles star Will Saunders after signing with the Newcastle Eagles having become available as the London City Royals folded this month.

In only his second match, Saunders is already relishing the match up with Lions superstar, Ovie Soko.

“I’ve actually got a lot of good mates on the Lions team and it’s going to be great to go up against them in my first game in Newcastle and let’s hope we can get that win.”

Trending Up

Soko, in particular, is averaging a impressive 23 points and 10 rebounds in his last four games, the experience and talent that coach Vince Macaulay was looking for earlier in the season has been found in Soko’s performances and is showing in the Lions position in the table.

Friday’s game will be a test for Macaulay’s men who would like to create some distance with the rest of the pack and that all starts with a win on Friday.

Tip off is at 7:30pm at the Eagles Community Arena.
