London Lions run in Europe came to an unfortunate end after they lost 97-78 to Bayreuth in the FIBA Europe Cup.

Bayreuth now move ahead of the Lions in group A after matchday 6.

Despite the loss, there was a good performance by Dirk Williams. He managed to put up 30 points for the Lions.

Also, Martynas Sajus and Terry Allen both ended the night with double-doubles, however, it still was not enough for the British Basketball League team to get the victory.

Tough Start

Bayreuth started out strong by opening the score with a 3-pointer from Bastian Doreth.

Both teams went toe to toe in the first quarter scoring buckets back and forth.

The Lions managed to outshoot Bayreuth in the first period on accuracy, however, it would not be enough as Lions trailed 31-29 after the opening quarter.

Coming into the second quarter Lions had multiple chances to catch up and take the lead in the game, but they missed three consecutive 3-pointers making it very difficult for themselves whilst Bayreuth were increasing their lead.

The gap by the half time was 16.

Chasing The Game

As the third quarter started Lions returned back to the court chasing the game with some added pressure for Bayreuth.

Unfortunately, they still could not mark Bastian Doreth and his team as they kept outscoring the away side.

Bayreuth saw the rest of the game out with a passage of good passing and movement around the court.

London Lions head coach Vincent Macaulay said, “The good news is we can get better and that’s what we want to see.”
