Orient fell to their 10th draw of the season as bottom-of-the-table Scunthorpe substitute Jake Scrimshaw cancelled out Aaron Drinan’s opener.

Orient drop out of the play-off places to eighth after a series of chances went to waste in the second-half.

The O’s controlled the game throughout and it was they who struck first. In-form striker Drinan put Orient in control after 21 minutes after a fluid move up the field.

Fired

Orient went close to doubling their lead nine minutes after the interval as Dan Kemp fired across the face of goal and Drinan failed to convert from just inside the area.

These misses proved decisive as Scrimshaw grabbed an equaliser in the 64th minute after Orient failed to clear a Scunthorpe corner.

Orient had further chances to snatch all three points later in the second-half. Harry Smith’s right-footed shot hit the inside of the post and stayed out. He was later unable to latch onto a cross after slipping inside the box.

Raced

Orient substitute Paul Smyth had the best chance of the lot after he raced clear of the Scunthorpe defence 10 minutes from time only to put his shot wide.

This result means Orient are currently without a win in their last five away fixtures, a metric they will need to fix should they remain hopeful of achieving a play-off place.

O’s boss Kenny Jackett said to the clubs YouTube channel after the game: “We were on top, looked like the game was there for us right the way through, we just couldn’t finish our chances”.
