Genesis assistant coach Manuel Saramento has spoken of his determination to do well in his new role at the club.

Saramento stepped up from player, to player-coach when Genesis’ previous head coach Carlos Codinha quit the role at the turn of the year due to personal reasons. Trevor Tamatave decided to fill in for Codinha and called up Saramento to assist him as a coach.

“It wasn’t a role that I was expecting,” said Saramento. “Carlos had to quit halfway through the season so Trevor needed help to run things he asked me I could take training sessions and help with the squad on match days.”.

Tough Challenge

Genesis have enjoyed an improvement in performances and results since Tamatave and Saramento took over, which the latter puts down to hard work and experience from both himself and the players.

“The aim is to stay in the Super League and we have to fight to do that. I have to put all my experience of playing futsal into this new role to try and do the best for the team. We know what it takes to get results and we have to keep working to try and achieve that.”

Fighting Spirit

The club’s recent 3-1 loss to York City will have been a blow to the side’s survival hopes, but Saramento insists they must remain positive in order to turn things around at the club.

“We have to go into games believing we can win, and we must be ready to fight. Every game is like a final for us now.”

Genesis must now turn their attentions to their FA Cup match vs London Helvecia on Wednesday, in what will be a tough fixture for them.
