Marvelous Invasion

Marvelous is a Japanese game developing company, publisher and anime producer. Already big in Japan, it is now ready to move in on the rest of the world! Behind closed doors with PR & Community Manager Scott Emsen, at ComicCon I managed to get my hands on some exclusive demo material for two upcoming games.

Granblue Fantasy is a fighting game inspired by the eponymous anime series. Previously Marvelous created this game in an RPG version for Japanese fans but decided to bring it to the West as a fighting game. There are eleven characters to choose from. The game is very easy to play, even for players who aren’t used to fighting games. Each character has an original voice actor, both in Japanese and English. They also have their own intros, and depending on who they are fighting, different dialogues will be used. The animations and visuals for the game are very much in the anime style. Players can enjoy different game modes: story mode, single player, multiplayer and training mode. If you aren’t familiar with this title, I suggest you watch the anime series on Netflix. The game comes out for PlayStation 4 in spring 2020.

Sakuna of Rice and Ruin is a game that mixes side scrolling beat-em-up and RPG. The game follows the story of Sakuna, the goddess of harvest. The game changes camera styles depending on which part of the game you are in. During the RPG sections where the players will be walking around the village and performing multiple tasks, the camera will be in third person. As for the beat-em-up segments, where the player will be facing enemies, the camera changes to traditional side scrolling. There are plenty of items to find and equip Sakuna with, to make her stronger and benefit your village. This title will come out on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Microsoft Windows in spring 2020.

Scott was confident that “Marvelous has plenty more to offer to gamers across the world. 2020 is our big year”.
