James Ellington, a British Olympic sprinter, has filed a £1 million lawsuit against his former teammate Nigel Levine for the motorbike incident that ended his sprinting career.

Ellington was born in London and joined Newham and Essex Beagles East London.

He was in a motorbike accident with his fellow sprinter Nigel Levine on January 17th, 2017.

He after suffered multiple fractures in his leg and pelvis due to this.

Career History

He competed for Great Britain in both the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

He also won the 200m sprint at the British Athletics championships in 2012 and 2013 and advanced to the semi-finals of the same event in 2014 European championship.

End Of A Journey?

He claimed that because of the accident, he was unable to succeed as a track star or pursue a successful career.

The 37-year-old sprinter suffered multiple lower leg fractures and pelvic fracture, which were among the orthopaedic wounds he received in the accident, according to his attorney Katrina Deal.

He was also reported to have suffered a minor brain injury and serious psychiatric harm.

Ellington claims he was never the same runner he had been prior to the crash, despite coming back from multiple leg fractures to run the 100 metres in a remarkable 10.93 in 2019 and competed in the 2021 British Athletics championships.

Last week, Victoria McCloud, High court judge master, presided over a quick pretrial hearing during which the attorneys deliberated which expert testimony will be at the trial and the probable £500,000 cost of their defence.

A trial is currently set for 2024 to address the contentious issue of how much Ellington could legally be owed for his injury.
