Leyton Orient produced a clinical display at the Breyer Group Stadium on Tuesday night as they beat Swindon Town 4-1 in Sky Bet League Two.

Drinan’s Delight

The hosts took the lead in the 19th minute through Aaron Drinan, the striker emphatically smashing the ball into the roof of the net from Thomas’ James fizzed cross.

A superb counter-attack from an Orient corner bought about the equaliser for the visitors just before half-time.

Tyreece Simpson, on loan from League One side Ipswich Town, carried the ball forward over halfway before passing it out wide to left midfielder Ellis Iandolo, whose subsequent whipped delivery was met by a diving header from Harry McKirdy which beat Lawrence Vigouroux at his near post.

Archibald The Architect

Two goals in six second-half minutes for the O’s took the game away from the visiting Robins, with both being assisted Theo Archibald.

His teasing out-swinging ball allowed Drinan to steal in and prod home the ball from six yards out to grab his second goal of the game. He then produced a superb delivery to pick out Harry Smith in the box, who took control of the ball before dispatching it into the back of the Swindon net.

Smith then completed the rout in the 82nd minute as he headed in from close range after Robins keeper Jojo Wollacott had parried a shot from Drinan.

Statement Win

The result moves Orient up to 7th in the table and into the play-off positions, with manager Kenny Jackett affirming his side’s desire: “We want to keep pushing toward the top of the league.”

The win also ended Swindon’s impressive unbeaten start to the season, although the Robins still sit in 5th place, two points above the O’s.

Orient’s next game is on Saturday when they entertain Crawley Town in east London.
