The UEL Women’s football team have had a decent season so far with two wins from four matches in the BUCS League and sit in fourth place in the league as the side chase promotion. Rising East spoke with captain Lucie Wynn, and her goals this season are clear as she said, “this season our goal is to aim for promotion and to compete at a high level to win the league, but also to continue to recruit players and grow the club”.

Early Beginnings

Wynn is from South London and started playing football at 11 years old for Tooting & Mitcham FC. She has also played for some of the top teams in the country such as Fulham and Leyton Orient to name a couple. Wynn also currently plays for London Seaward FC who are in the WPL Division One.

It is Lucie’s third year at UEL and she’s played in multiple positions; primarily as a right back. Despite the BUCS league being cancelled last year due to COVID-19, the team still had a couple training sessions as Wynn mentioned, “when we weren’t in lockdowns we still had training where we mostly worked on technical skills, as it was expected of us to keep up and work on our fitness away from training sessions.”

What Next For the Captain?

Wynn sees herself playing football after UEL as she has competed in the women’s national reserve league and hopes that there will be opportunities for her to work in and around the football industry in the future.
