Gains and Losses In The Way We Live Now

Life under lockdown gives us pause to reflect. This 'news poem' is a further reflection on that.

The people stayed home,

and the healing began.

People read, and rested, and reconnected.

They made art, laughed and played cards.

Some learnt piano, others learnt guitar.

They prayed and meditated, only so they could empty their minds.

The world stopped outside, but it was about time.

The tumultuous London turned into a ghost town.

And suddenly, the fresh air and clear skies emerged.

But these were only not for us,

as now wild animals wandered around.

And in our cladded cages, we watched them from afar.

Sadly, others sank in sorrow,

left with no one to rely on.

Imprisoned and terrified to meet their shadows.

And wondering; will I ever make it out of here?
