Bromley earned a vital point on the road away to league leaders Notts County, in an entertaining 1-1 draw at Meadow Lane.

Bright Start

The visitors started the brighter of the two sides. Michael Cheek had a glorious chance to put his side ahead when he rounded Notts keeper Sam Slocombe, but defender Aden Baldwin made a brilliant block.

Against The Run Of Play

However, despite the visitor’s fast start, it was the home side that made the breakthrough. In the 15th minute

Ruben Rodrigues fizzed a ball in towards the back post and Adam Chicksen converted from close range.

The in-form Macauley Langstaff almost doubled County’s lead when he blazed over from just inside the box, before an effort from close range was comfortably saved by Tom Smith.

Renewed Pressure

In search of an equaliser, Bromley were again denied, as a defensive error from the hosts wasn’t capitalised on when Billy Bingham’s deflected effort forced Slocombe into a good reaction save.

The Magpies’ keeper was again called into action when a Harry Forster cross was met by the diving head of Cheek, but his effort could only sting the palms of Slocombe.

An entertaining first half came to an end after Rodrigues thundered an effort against the post.

Second-Half Scrutiny

Bromley keeper Smith was called into action early in the second half, as he denied Matt Palmer from range before saving from the league’s top scorer, Langstaff, in a one-on-one situation.

Smith prevented County from doubling their lead when the Ravens’ keeper saved a Rodrigues strike, before Langstaff saw his effort cannon back off the crossbar on the rebound.

Level Once Again

The tide turned when the away side got themselves back into the game on the hour mark after a prolonged spell of pressure. Cheek ended his 11-game goal drought when he headed home a Reece Hannam cross.

Numerous impressive saves at both ends meant the scores stayed level come full time.

Streaks Ended

The point sees the Ravens end a three-match losing streak, whilst ending Notts County’s seven league-game winning run in the process.

The Ravens remain eighth in the table, two points off the play offs. Next up, back-to-back home matches against Woking and Halifax Town.

Managers Reaction

Bromley manager Andy Woodman spoke to the club’s website after the game and expressed how pleased he was with his side’s performance:

“I thought we were excellent, I thought we created some really good chances especially in that first half. We were gutted to go in at half time 1-0 down, I thought we were dangerous all over the park.

“I’m pleased on a lot of levels tonight.”
