Royal Dock Cable Cars Turn Purple

The cable cars linking the Royal Docks and Greenwich Peninsula at both Royal Victoria and North Greenwich have been branded purple after its recent sponsorship by a Swedish IT company.

The name has also been changed to the IFS Cloud Cable, following the sponsorship deal with IFS, which uses purple as its corporate colour.

The two terminals have also been renamed IFS Royal Docks and IFS Greenwich Peninsula.

Transport for London debuted the purple-coloured carriages at the end of October after announcing the deal with IFS a month earlier. TfL was looking for a new sponsor after their 10-year deal with Emirates Airlines ended in June, leaving the TfL cable cars without a long-term sponsor.

The agreement with IFS will last for a minimum of two years but it is projected to last for five.

According to the Evening Standard, IFS will pay around £420,000 per year, which is a significant decrease from the £3.6 million per year Emirates Airlines paid. TfL Cable Car Head Josh Crompton told local media that both TfL and IFS wanted to turn IFS Cloud Cable Car into “a must-do attraction”.

The Cable Car network opened in 2012, with TfL reporting that 15 million people have used the service during its decade of operation. According to Josh Crompton, plans have also been made to refurbish the insides of the cars, as well as provide new communications systems.
