Thousands of people have already signed a petition to ban the public from buying fireworks after a group of teenagers started a “firework war” at Westfield Stratford just before 7pm on Halloween.

Ida, 22, a bystander who witnessed the incident told Rising East, “There were a lot of enforcement officers, who closed off part of Stratford station and fought off teenagers…” who wanted to get into the area.

After being instructed by the police to leave the scene, Ida made his way past the barriers where he heard more, “fireworks going off.” He saw, “… teenagers running around screaming and laughing whilst being chased by police…”

Following the incident an unidentified teenage girl who threw a firework at a police officer was arrested at the scene.

In a distressing scene caught on video, one of the fireworks is shown hitting a mother and her baby.
