Jack Giordmaina speaks to an up-and-coming MotoGP star about the tough conditions at the recent Aragon GP.

British MotoGP rider Bradley Smith has described the recent Aragon GP as ‘crazy’ following a battling ride that saw him finish fifth.

Changeable conditions throughout the race meant many riders – including world champion Marc Marquez – struggled to keep their bikes on the tarmac, but after falling as low as 20th Smith recovered to equal his best result of the season.

The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider was speaking on the set of MotoGP tonight, filmed at the BT Sport studios in Stratford, East London.

“It was a crazy race and the conditions were so hard to manage,” the 23-year-old said. “I found myself at the back of the pack after a nudge with (Andrea) Iannone, but as the track became wetter our bike came alive and I managed to fight my way through the field and ended up in fifth place.”

Now in his second year of premier class racing, Smith currently sits 10th in the championship standings with 85 points. The young Brit feels that he has come a long way since his debut back in Qatar in 2013.

“MotoGP is a massive step up from Moto2 (intermediate class). You are racing with world-class riders who will capitalise on any mistake you make. I think my attitude and riding style has completely changed from when I was in the feeder series. I have learnt that it’s important to build up your performance during a race weekend rather than turning up and going full guns blazing to be as quick as possible, because that is how you make mistakes.”

With four rounds remaining in this season’s championship Smith is hopeful that he can end 2014 with a good spate of results in preparation to him making a further step forward next season.
