Walthamstow FC beat local rivals Woodford Town on a glorious day of community and charity at Wadham Lodge. Walthamstow’s ‘Let It Stow’ campaign saw free entry given with any donation to local foodbank Eat or Heat, raising over £800 in an incredible community effort in E17.

On the pitch, Stow were the dominant side in the first half and raced into a 2-0 lead through Jason Hallett’s penalty and Harrison Carnegie’s superb curling effort.

There was a tense finish as Woodford scrambled home a few minutes from full-time but John Mackie’s side showed the game management skills required to keep the score at 2-1 and take home all three points to maintain their lead at the top of the Essex Senior League table.

“All In This Together At Walthamstow FC”

Alex Perry, who was one of the fans who organised the ‘Let It Stow’ campaign, said this after a successful day in E17:

“Some people might wonder why we follow a team in the 9th tier of English football. Days like today are why.”

“Some friends and I organised a foodbank collection. When we arrived an hour before kick off there was already a huge pile of foodbank donations – from the players! We’re all in this together at Walthamstow FC.”

“At a time when society is increasingly divided football is still something that can bring people together and strangers can bond over. Walthamstow FC is a community club. I was there with my son, wife, parents, friends, neighbours, colleagues. You can’t do that with professional football. ”

“Together with strangers we raised over £800 and lots of food and products for the foodbank just down the road. This means hungry people in Walthamstow can eat this winter.”

“They can also celebrate that Walthamstow stuffed Woodford 2-1 in the derby!”
