The saying is” it can only be up from here,” that must ring true among the Sunrisers camp after finishing rock bottom in both the Charlotte Edwards Cup and the Rachel Heyhoe Flint trophy.

After no win all season for interim head coach Laura Marsh, Sunrisers have appointed former Scotland international Andy Tennant.

“I am very much looking forward to working in partnership with a talented group of players and staff to develop a winning Sunrisers team.” Tennant described.

He will take up the role in mid-October.

Player Achievements

A positive this season is Allrounder Grace Scrivens who excelled in all competitions including the women’s Hundred for the London Spirit.

Sunrisers has earned the 18-year-old a call up to England’s development squad and England A not bad for someone who’s just finished their A-levels.

Her achievements were recognised across the league being nominated for young player of the season in the PCA awards and swooping up with four awards in the Sunrisers end of season awards.

A Season Of Ups & Downs

The winless run does not exactly tell the story of the season with games coming down to the wire against the Western Storm and Central Sparks.

However, there were games where the Sunrisers out classed the away fixture against Central Sparks.  England’s Amy Jones stood out hitting 80 of 49 balls and England spinner Sarah Glenn taking two wickets for only 14 runs.

The same theme carried on into the Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy with lots of big performances from players going in vain as the team slumps to another loss. The Sunrisers did pick up 2 points as their game against the Thunder was cancelled because of the death of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Sunrisers was unlucky against the Northern Diamonds where Mady Villiers and Grace Scrivens taking four wickets each. However, a middle order collapse prevented the Sunrisers from victory as Northern Diamonds sneaked home with a Six run win.

” Obviously would have liked to get a win on the board I think we played some good cricket at times but obviously not enough to get the win.” Grace Scrivens was said.

Goals

Next season Sunrisers task will be to keep the star players of the 2021-2022 season making sure they start the season with the best team possible and win all upcoming matches to come and with that the girls will rise up the table and challenge for the higher places in the competitions.

The change of coach will also bring optimism into the team as Danni Warren Regional Director said, “My experience across multiple performance roles has brought enormous success, which Sunrisers look forward to tapping into.”
