Hot off the heels of the MOBOs music fans won’t have to wait too long for the beloved BRIT Awards to return. The iconic British music awards will be aired on Tuesday 8th February 2022 from the South East London venue, The 02 Arena.

In previous years, the event is usually hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall. However, he has stepped down from the role this upcoming year but the show will be in safe hands of comedian Mo Gilligan.

Gilligan has made multiple appearances on TV over the past few years including starring on The Masked Dancer and Celebrity Gogglebox.

Later this month, ITV will host a TV special titled, ‘The BRITs Are Coming’ which will be hosted by Clara Amfo & Maya Jama.

It will feature live performances from acts Anne-Marie, Joel Corry & MabelGlass Animals and Mimi Webb. The show will also be announcing the nominations for the BRIT’s and how people can vote for their favourite artists.

With no news yet on who the nominees are there will be some major changes to the awards being handed out. There will be four new genre awards in 2022 which are:

  • Alternative/Rock Act
  • Hip-Hop/Grime/Rap Act
  • Dance Act
  • Pop/R’n’B Act

However, the biggest change to the categories is that the awards have been changed to gender-neutral this year. Female and Male categories will be replaced by “Artist of the Year” and “International Artist of the Year”.
