The Local East London ice hockey side, the Lee Valley Lions have got off to an unfortunate start to the season.

The Lions have played a total of eight games so far in the 2021/22 season and have come out on the losing side all eight times, only making one of those eight games a close one.

Having conceded 55 goals in the NIHL Division 2 South (Wilkinson) and 40 goals in the Wilkinson Cup (East), the Lions have conceded a total of 95 goals so far this season, an astonishing number!

The Lions themselves have only scored seven goals to counter that.

It is clear that the Lions have been struggling both on the attack and on the defence and with plenty of games left in the season, the misery around the team could keep building.

NIHL Division 2 South (Wilkinson) results:

Lee Valley Lions 2:14 Peterborough Phantoms 2

Haringey Huskies 11:0 Lee Valley Lions

Lee Valley Lions 1:13 Invicta

Cardiff Fire 17:0 Lee Valley Lions

Wilkinson Cup (East) results:

Lee Valley Lions 2:14 Peterborough Phantoms 2

Haringey Huskies 11:0 Lee Valley Lions

Lee Valley Lions 1:2 Chelmsford Warriors

Lee Valley Lions 1:13 Invicta Mustangs

With the next game being against the Chelmsford Warriors on the 10th of October, the Lee Valley side will be looking for their first win of the season with their fingers crossed as the only team they have been able to go side to side with this year has been the Warriors.

With all signs pointing towards another big defeat for the Lions, a victory for the Lee Valley boys would be a great way to reset their season and regain some confidence which will be at an all-time low.

One thing is certain, there is not a single team that the Lions will come up against which can be labelled an ‘easy’ match.

The Lions season is still young with the majority of games still to go. They have a lot to prove and with plenty of time still ahead a key issue to address is the defence.

Conceding double-digit goals almost every game shows that there is a glaring problem with the team, so, implementing different strategies for defending at full strength and on the penalty-kill should present the Lions with closer games and closer games mean more entertaining games for the Lions fans, who must be looking for therapists at this point.
