Grunge and Rhythm artist Kid Brunswick was playing his first headline show – at Hoxton’s Courtyard Theatre – so I grabbed him for a chat. Click on the link below to listen.

The fact that tickets to this gig sold out weeks before the event shows that this 23-year old Londoner who debuted in 2019 is quickly becoming a star.

The gritty distorted lyricism of support acts Bambie Thug and AlienBlaze were the perfect start to the show. Yet with Brunswick it felt as if you were watching a rock giant worthy of the O2.

The set kicked off with one of his older songs, Prescription Kids, and the mosh pit was immediately full. Kerrang has described Brunswick’s raw sound as responsible for one of the “deepest, darkest and most confessional records” of 2021, and that intensity creates an atmosphere that’s not just wild, it is kind of intimate as well.

Next up was the as-yet unreleased song Stained which Brunswick helpfully leaked on SoundCloud 24 hours before the show so the fans could sing the lyrics back to him.

Chaotic energy flowed through the venue, with people crowd surfing and hanging from the ceiling bars above a mosh pit that heaved intensely until the very end.

Bringing on CASSYETTE to perform on Skin, which she helped write, just made you feel more connected to both of them, and helped the show feel even more personal.

The night ended with an encore of Prescription Kids, this time with everyone invited on stage to sing with him. To get so much dedication and energy from a crowd at such an early stage in one’s career is extraordinary. The phrase “up-and-coming” is used to describe so many acts. But because of Brunswick’s unique mix of intensity and lyricism, he is the up-and-coming artist of 21. Grab some tickets if you can.
