UEL’s Netball 1st team beat Canterbury Christ Church 52-12 at Polo Farm Sports Club to make it three wins from three for the team.

An Afternoon To Remember

A complete team performance led by stand-in captain Tallie Meager to another emphatic win for UEL. The dominant display started from the first centre pass as UEL raced out to an early lead with goal shooter Siba Mguga scoring the first four points.

The defence also stepped up early with Goal Defence Olivia Legrand intercepting Canterbury’s attack not once but twice in as many possessions.

However, Canterbury got back into the quarter, but UEL were starting to move out of reach as the quarter ended 11-5 to UEL.

Highlights

The second quarter was more of the same with UEL keeping Canterbury Christchurch at arm’s length. Siba was on fire in front of the post scoring the majority of UEL’s points during the first half.

Goals also came for Holly Daly and substitute Grace Iyinbor both playing as Goal Attack. The first half closed with UEL up 21-10.

You could see the tiredness set in for Canterbury who had no substitutes left on the bench at the start of the third quarter.

This is where the UEL girls made them pay scoring 15 unanswered points. This was a complete quarter masterclass; from a defensive side picking up loose passes, being first to the ball and intercepting key passes and the offense keeping the ball which created chances for scoring clinically.

The winner was a foregone conclusion by the start of the fourth quarter, but UEL professionalism was unmatched with captain Tallie saying “I didn’t want to concede more than two” in the pre-quarter huddle.

That team did exactly what she asked only conceding two more however scoring 17, yes 17 more points trouncing a depleted opposition.

Star Girl

Voted umpires’ player of the match and deservedly so was Siba Mguga who spearheaded the UEL attack scoring 40 out of the 46 shots she attempted. Clinical.
