The UEL Men’s second team take a quick break from league action as they come up against undefeated Bournemouth University in the last 16 of the BUCS Basketball 2018-19 Cup away from home on Wednesday at the Talbot Campus Sports Hall, tip-off at 3pm.

In the previous round, UEL made quick work of Bath University in a 63-point hammering in November, setting up this match-up with the current champions and league leaders of the Western 1A league.

Blistering Bournemouth

With eight wins out of eight, Bournemouth are one of only three universities competing in the cup with a 100%-win record, with the other two being Worcester and Queen Margaret, a feat that has highlighted their dominance so far this campaign.

Bournemouth have amassed +362 points difference in their league so far in just eight games, meaning they have won their league games by an average of over 45 points a game, simply an outstanding number.

This will be their first cup fixture of the season, as in the previous round they were given a bye and automatically progressed for this upcoming match-up against UEL.

Last season, Bournemouth reached the semi-finals of the cup and lost by only two points against Middlesex University and will be among several teams, including UEL that feel it is their time to hoist the trophy.

Full of Confidence

Despite this being a cup fixture, UEL’s starting centre Curtis Hayden says the team should still take this match seriously.

“Obviously, we still want to win, we still have confidence from the last round and last couple of games we’ve played even though they have not lost this season.”
