UEL men’s football 1sts can be happy to take a point against Bath who have not lost a game. And yet East London will be frustrated not to take home all three after taking the early lead.

Leading By Example

Coming from a free kick, Captain Jonathan Sanchez’s strike put UEL 1-0 up after just nine minutes. The ball was whipped in by Daniel Londono Medina which was cleared away by Bath’s defence but only as far as Sanchez who rifled home from outside the box.

Team Bath showed signs of recovery from the earlier set back with chances of their own. Their first chance of the match was an in-swinging free kick which no one in blue and yellow attacked.

Chances came for both sides as the end of the first half loomed. Bath came forward again with a header from Sam Meakes that forced UEL’s keeper into a smart save that denied Bath an equaliser.

Second Half Antics

After a slow start to the second half, the first chance fell to the visitors. They were awarded a free kick about 25 yards out which went under the wall and trickled past the post.

As the game continued, Bath looked like the team that were going to get something out of this game. Their efforts paid off in the 72nd minute as the ball was played over to Sam Meakes who headed it home. He was showered with congratulations by his teammates as they got their reward.

UEL struggled to get back in the game, as Bath floated in another free kick which was bundled in by the away side. However, the referee had already blown up for a foul on UEL resulting in the goal being disallowed.

Scrambling For The Winner

As we entered the last 10 minutes both sides were looking for the winner. Bath had another chance to win it, but Meakes shot rattled against the crossbar.

As the game continued to open up, UEL pushed forward as Troy Walters’s strike was punched away by the keeper.

The late drama continued as Bath had the ball in the back net for the third time that afternoon but like before it was disallowed, due to offside in the build-up this time.

What’s next?

Massive games for both teams next week as UEL travel to fellow strugglers Swansea. While second placed Bath host league leaders Hartpury.
