UEL Women’s Volleyball first team are bearing down on another Premier South title following a 3-0 win against Oxford last Wednesday. The victory saw the girls make it seven wins from eight league ties. With two games left of the season, UEL host title rivals Bournemouth at SportsDock this Wednesday as they look to claim a fourth consecutive Premier South title.

The Blues lead the way at the top of the division but both Bournemouth and Essex have games in hand. UEL will look to defeat Bournemouth for the second time this season after beating The Coasters 3-1 away, while hoping that Essex drop points in their remaining games.

Coach’s Comments

Coach Jefferson Williams is focused on winning the next two games 3-0 to keep the title within reach:

“We still want to win the Premier South and we know the run in has to be 3-0 in all the matches that we play. In an ideal world Essex will lose a match but if they don’t, hopefully [they] drop sets, and we don’t.”

Having already played Bournemouth this season, UEL know exactly what they will be coming up against:

“We beat Bournemouth 3-1 away and we didn’t play particularly well. They tried to upset what we were trying to do, so we expect them to come here well prepared, so will we. As long as we have a full squad, injuries aside we should have, I expect a convincing result.”

After beating Oxford 3-0 last week, Williams was disappointed with the amount of individual errors and hopes for an improved performance on Wednesday:

“It’s always difficult when you play a team that you know are a few levels below you. The girls know nothing will do except a 3-0 result. We will play differently, we will be prepared of course and as coaches we will coach differently. We will get the best players on the court and get them playing at the level that we know they can.”

Duty Calls

UEL introduced ‘Games of the Week’ a fortnight ago and for its third instalment, the focus is on Volleyball. In previous weeks, the selected teams had the opportunity to work with the community before their scheduled fixtures. Williams welcomes the prospect of working with children from the local area:

“The players will be able to contribute and give something back. Hopefully they stick around for the matches. Nothing like a bunch of kids shouting you on!”

When and Where?

If you can, come down and support UEL at SportsDock this Wednesday 5th December with the match scheduled to begin at 13:00.
