UEL Men’s 2nd team currently reside in 3rd place in the South Eastern 1A league, having played four games achieving six points.

The east London side approach this game with confidence following a win last week at home against Hertfordshire 1st, which ended in a 35-point success, winning 79-44.

Daniel Sharp shoots for three against Hertfordshire.

UEL’s performance so far this season has been respectable with two wins and two losses, both wins have been on home soil against Imperial and last week’s win against Hertfordshire.

UEL’s two losses include a defeat against London South Bank away, and their opening day defeat to this week’s opponents, Surrey.

Last time out, Surrey claimed the win as they defeated UEL by one point in a tight 60-59 at the start of the season. There is no doubt UEL will be heading into this match focused to ensure they prove themselves and inflict their revenge.

League Double

Opponents Surrey 1st come into the match as favourites, as they sit top the table. They have taken nine points from their last five games with three wins and two defeats.

Surrey’s last game saw them emerge victorious with a five point, 77-72, away win last Wednesday against London South Bank 1st, the team who contributed to one of UEL’s losses.

Having beaten the team who also overcame UEL, as well as sitting top of the South Eastern 1A table, Surrey will be coming into this match-up with confidence and aspirations of doing the double over their east London rivals.

There’s not much between both UEL 2nd team and Surrey, with the home team having a game in hand and with two losses apiece, it will be interesting to see which team can improve their record and add to their wins.

Court-side View

Hayden wins possession during tip-off.

Prior to the match Rising East caught up with UEL’s very own Steven Hayden: “We’re definitely feeling positive after our win against Hertfordshire but we’re not going to get too confident, we’re still going to approach this game with focus and hard work.”

“Having the game at home we definitely have an advantage,” Hayden continued. “The mindset is to win, we’re going to have the crowd there so we’re going to feed off their energy.”

Winner Takes All

With both Surrey and UEL coming in off of wins, it would be unsurprising if the teams will be determined to come out on top and climb up the table.

If UEL can put in another convincing performance this Wednesday against Surrey they will top the table on points difference.
