Following the senior team’s loss to Newcastle United at home this weekend, West Ham’s fans will be looking for some positives, having performed mercurially in the Premier League this season.

Luckily, The London Stadium faithful can take some pride in the form of their U23s squad, who have been flying in the Premier League 2 Division 2 this season, as they remain unbeaten in ten games.

The Coach

The recent appointment of lead coach, Dmitri Halajko seems to have been an invaluable acquisition for The Irons, as his footballing philosophy has started to take effect on his squad.

The 39-year-old has implemented a quick, attacking style of football which favours controlling the pace of the game and clinical finishing.

With a system that relies on sharp offensive play, Halajko has been helped no end by the fantastic form of his attacking players this season, scoring 32 goals in ten games in the league.

Key Performers

It is difficult to talk about the U23s season without mentioning talisman Anthony Scully and his brilliant goalscoring form.

The forward has managed thirteen goals and five assists in just 11 competitive matches this term, contributing to over half of the goals scored by The Irons this season, proving himself to be an integral part of this Hammers side.

Another honourable mention is Nathan Holland, who has netted ten times in 12 games this season, while also providing 4 assists for other players.

Cup Competitions

Not only have West Ham been competing in the Premier League 2 Division 2 this season, but they have also been testing their ability in the Premier League International Cup.

The Premier League International Cup is a competition which features the best academy development sides from England take on some of the highest quality academy sides from Europe.

In this competition, The Hammers have faced Valencia, who they beat 1-0 in the first round of fixtures, and Wolfsburg, to whom they narrowly lost 3-2 in a tight affair on Wednesday night.

Despite this loss, Halajko’s side will be feeling positive going into their next game against Exeter in the EFL Trophy, as they look to continue their wonderful season under new management.
