West Ham U23s Set For London Derby

West Ham's youngsters are ready to face Chelsea U23s in Premier League 2. Bill Martin has the details.

West Ham U23s take on London rivals Chelsea in the next round of fixtures in the Premier League 2 this coming Sunday.

Snow Problem

Normal footballing service is hopefully set to resume after the disruption from ‘Beast from the East’ brought the country to a standstill that unfortunately saw a lot of games postponed last weekend.

When the two last played in October, the Londoners couldn’t be separated, drawing 0-0 at the Recreation Ground.

Under Performing

To say it’s been a quiet season for both teams in comparison to their senior counterparts could be described as a massive understatement.

The well documented woes from the two ends of the Premier League table don’t fit the make-up of their esteemed academies this campaign. West Ham and Chelsea U23s find themselves in 6th and 7th respectively.

In Form

Last time out, West Ham travelled to Merseyside to face up against a title chasing Liverpool. The Hammers were able to take the lead when defender and captain Josh Pask put the Hammers in front after just three minutes.

Despite pressure from the Reds, West Ham held on to secure their first victory in four games, having last defeated Manchester United back in early January.

Contrast

The Blues however, have enjoyed a great 2018 so far, reaching the semi-final of the Checkatrade Trophy and sitting second in the Premier League 2 form table, behind only Arsenal.

After a rocky start this season, the storm has settled in west London, and Chelsea will be looking to continue their current run of form – after beating the Red Devils in their last victory, smashing four past the relegation candidates without reply to cement them firmly into mid-table.

Top Of The Class

Performances from the likes of Nathan Holland, Sead Haksabanovic and Vashon Neufville from the hosts could provide the ‘X’ factor when facing the likes of Kylian Hazard, Harvey St Clair and Reece James.

All six men have been proven performers this season and should provide a tough game come Sunday afternoon.
