Temperatures are rising. We’re moving to our spring/summer wardrobe, so what are people in East London wearing? Reporter Nadrine Narku went around and about to find out what young people are wearing and why.

Our first interviewee, Allazhar, is summer ready in some navy-blue shorts with black tights underneath, and a black turtleneck under a light brown button-up jumper. He has chosen to pair this look with a long dark brown trench coat and some black boots.

“I wanted to look formal that day to imagine that I was on my way to some important meeting. Also, I didn’t want to be too formal since it would look whimsical and inappropriate, so I thought, ‘why not to wear a turtleneck and shorts?’ I was very lazy to shave and didn’t want to show too much skin, so I wore tights”.

I can relate to the last part, no doubt.

Ida is dressed in navy blue Evisu Diacock jeans with the logo in red painted on the back. He has paired his outfit with black trainers and t-shirt as well as a black over-the-shoulder corduroy bag. Ida has chosen to accessorise this eye-catching ensemble with silver bracelets and rings, and has matched the black buckle-like bracelet seen on his right wrist with a pair of sunglasses which coordinate perfectly with his outfit.

“I chose this because the red accent on the back of the trousers highlighted my shirt. I chose to take a picture in that location because I matched the door, and I also had a red drink.”

Here we have Abby, a hype beast queen. In this picture she’s wearing a classic Bape hoodie in camouflage and a pair of light washed blue jeans. Abby has chosen to accessorise with a seashell necklace with a shell pendant. She has also included yellow, black, and silver coloured rings.

“I wanted something comfortable and also warm since this weather can change at any moment.”

Lina, 21, chose a classic light blue denim-on-denim outfit accessorised with a small lime green bag. She has paired this look with a black t-shirt underneath her overalls; and black Dr. Martins. The back of her jacket reads ‘happy times’ and features the Pink Panther, which triggers a trip down memory lane.  The minimal accessorising allows this look and the bag to speak to for themselves without being sore on the eyes.

Posing in this picture is Kathrine, 23, on the left; and Madalina, 21, on the right.

Both sport a denim jean skirt ensemble. Kathrine pairs her baby pink skirt with those Dr. Martin boots which seem to be an ongoing trend; as well as a white spaghetti strap top. Kathrine has also chosen to accessories with silver hoop earrings, giving the look more of a casual summer vibe. Madalina paired her black denim skirt with a pair of Nike trainers giving a more laid-back look. She has added a pop of colour with her neon orange and black Billie Eilish t-shirt. Her accessories include pandora bracelets, sliver rings and small silver stud earrings. Their inspiration was something “casual and cute.”

Sonia is repping her roots with a Nepalese inspired outfit. She’s wearing a simple black V-neck dress with a fun cut out over her shoulder leading to sleeves. But what makes this outfit stand out is the beautiful Nepalese jewellery she’s chosen to accessorise with. In this photo she’s wearing a thrifted silver choker necklace paired with a thinner necklace that together accentuate the v neckline of her dress. Sonia’s silver earrings and cufflink bracelet speak of her Nepalese decent. Her hair is displayed in a traditional way in two braids with silver lacha’s (thread) at the end.

“I wanted to do an outfit that show cases my traditional jewellery.”

On the glamorous side Saida, 21, is dressed to impress in this emerald-green fishtail dress. She has paired the dress with two gold necklaces, gold hoops and a black hijab to allow the dress to be the focus point. The dress displays dark little pattens all over it and has been made to fit perfectly to her body. On the dress the upside-down V-neck stitching just over her rib cage enhances the hourglass body shape even more.

“I was going for a timeless and effortless look, but I also wanted to look good because I was the host.”

The subtle detail on the many necklaces and rings she wears makes this a timeless look indeed.

Gemma, 21, is dressed in a neutral toned outfit. Her light khaki green trench coat coordinates well with the belt that is cinching her waist, altering the off-white dress perfectly to fit her body. The running theme of khaki green is also present ain the sole of her boots, creating a chic look. Gemma has added small accessories to the outfit such as the brooch on the right side of her trench coat and safety pins at the top of her dress.

“I picked this outfit because I wanted to match in a way but also have it fitted. I added the pins because it went well with it, and as for the red lip I wanted to add a bit of colour.”

Louise is ready for battle in this black-on-black ensemble. She has paired these jet-black leather lace up boots with a sheer-sleeved top displaying a cool cut out along the shoulder to collar bone. She wore black Cargo trousers with buckles along either side, leaving a piece of the material to fall down her legs, as well as a matching black seatbelt buckle-like belt to give tghe look an edge.

“I wanted something comfortable and casual, but then I added the boots because they went with the outfit, but also because I wanted to wear them that day.”

Here we have Sonia again on a warmer day in London, dressed in casual but still trendy clothing. She’s wearing some baggy light blue jeans with a classic simple white cropped t-shirt.

She has paired the simple outfit with fun necklaces that feature pearls and a sunflower. She added white hair clips which match her outfit perfectly and cute multicoloured hair bands for a separation effect in her pigtails. Her pair of white crocks and colourful hoodie form the highlight of this outfit. The art on the hoodie displays a skull with accents of pink in the eyes and nose. Behind the skull is a display of flowers in yellow, and the leaves that go around and cover the hoodie show different images in light blue on the white background.

“I wanted to keep the outfit plain because the main point was the hoodie and the embellishment. But I felt it was too plain, so I added jewellery”

This spring/summer it seems that choosing comfort is a must. But also due to the unpredictable wheather, choosing a jacket, hoodie, or sweater to keep warm is also a priority. Another key element is the addition of those essories. Any outfit can stand out if you accessorise it. Whether it be through layers of jewellery, a cute bag or even a hat, it is this that can take your outfit to the next level.
