A huge retrospective of the late soul singer Amy Winehouse is set to be opening at the Design Museum in Kensington, London this weekend, beginning on the 26th November.

This will be the first major exhibition based on Amy Winehouse’s life that has ever taken place in the UK and has came about 10 years after her tragic death in 2011.

What To Expect

The exhibition will involve Winehouse’s early career through her recordings, her childhood/teenage notebooks that helped influence and unravel the creative process that was behind her music that we hear today.

The exhibition will also pay tribute to the musicians and artists that influenced her the most including Dinah Washington and Mark Ronson, and different genres like Motown and Jazz.

The singer’s aesthetic was a huge part of her image and how she chose to present herself, that will also be showcased in a presentation of her personal clothes and items including the red Moschino bag and the yellow Preen dress she wore to the 2007 Brit Awards.

Catalyst

Another key item being shown in the immersive exhibition is her first electric guitar which was a Daphne blue Fender Stratocaster, used to make her debut album Frank. It will also present the detail Winehouse went into to record her album Back to Black which was the catalyst into making her an international star.

Winehouse’s father, Mitch Winehouse, has been a been a big help in opening up this exhibition and has discussed his daughter’s legacy in an interview with The Sun saying his mission was to “make sure people remember Amy for her talent, her generosity and the love she showed us all and not just her troubles with addiction”.

The exhibition has been organised by the Design Museum in collaboration with The Estate of Amy Winehouse which is waiving its right to royalties in favour of the Amy Winehouse Foundation.
