It was the home side who got off to the better start when Kit Graham opened the scoring six minutes into play after a lovely through ball was played to her behind the defence, slotting the ball past opposition keeper Laura Carter.

Goal!!!

The Addicks then began to assert their dominance on the game, controlling possession well in the first period and creating chances.

It wasn’t too long before Charlton added a second, experienced striker Charlotte Gurr doubled her side’s lead in the 34th minute, with a header after a well-timed cross.

The visitors had few opportunities to trouble the home side, with the Addicks shutting up shop and maintaining their discipline.

Total Dominance

In the 67th minute Charlton all but seemed to have wrapped the game up, Graham turning her markers before firing a shot into the back of the net – nothing the opposing keeper could have done about that.

With the home side cruising and on the way to the Fifth round, Huddersfield got a breakthrough, Brittany Sanderson tapping in the ball from close range after a corner in the 74th minute.

Comeback On?

Just a minute later the visitors got a second Laura Elford chipping the ball over Katie Startup, making it 3-2 after some fantastic play.

It was a nervy last quarter of an hour at The Oakwood for Charlton, and seemed that the nerves had got the better of them with Kate Mallin completing the comeback, poking in the ball after a goalmouth scramble in the area.

Extra Time

So extra time it was for both sides, both had battled it out to try and get the winner, both having good spells in possession however as a result, Charlton had a golden opportunity in the first half of extra time to put themselves 4-3 up when Charley Clifford’s free-kick was parried into the path of team mate Harley Bennett, unfortunately she could not get a clean contact to convert the chance.

Two corners in the dying embers of added time were well defended by the home side to make sure the game went to penalties.

Penalties!!!

The hosts took the first penalty, Lily Agg firing the first, before Huddersfield captain matched her with a composed penalty kick, 1-1.

Liz Ejupi was next to take however her attempt saved by Carter, the Terriers took advantage of that as they scored all their spot kicks winning 5-4 on penalties after the game had ended 3-3 in normal time, capping a miserable day for Charlton.
