Alf Edwards (pictured bottom right), is set to make his Pro Wrestling debut at the end of April at Battle Pro’s Winner Stays On show. A 30-man Royal Rumble where the final six will fight in a ladder match for an opportunity to fight for the Battle Pro World Heavyweight Championship.

Edwards has been training with the Knucklelocks Wrestling school since August 2018 and will finally get the opportunity he has been grafting for the last year and a half when he goes on to make his Pro Wrestling debut for the Battle Pro Wrestling company based in South London.

Edwards, from Abbeywood, has been a Wrestling fan his entire life and is ‘excited’, but also understandably ‘nervous’ about making his fast approaching debut.

“It’s felt like a long time coming, but at the same time it’s come a lot sooner than expected,” said Edwards. “I’ve dreamed of being a wrestler since I was a kid, now I’m actually getting the opportunity to wrestle – I’m beyond excited but also very nervous.”

Battle Pro has helped produce some of the finest talents in the industry in recent years, including the likes of; Roy Johnson, The OJMO, and Connor Mills, amongst many others. Edwards admits he hopes to add his name to the list of talent that Battle Pro has helped push in the British independent wrestling scene.

“I take inspiration from every man and woman that has stepped into a Battle Pro ring,” said the 20-year old. “I’ve been to many of their shows and they provide some of the best wrestling in London. Names such as Jordan Breaks, Connor Mills, The OJMO and Billy Haze are only a few names from a very long list of talent, and I hope to add my name to that list of talent someday.”

Still at a young age, Edwards is looking forward to hopefully a long and illustrious career within the industry and is setting his sights on making a name for himself throughout the wrestling world.

“It’s still too early to say what I’ll really go on to achieve in my career – my career hasn’t even begun yet,” admitted Battle Pro’s newest recruit. “However, I do hope this is the start of many opportunities for me and then I can start to achieve goals such as winning Championships’ for many promotions – not just in London, not just in the UK but hopefully, all over the world.”

Battle Pro’s Winner Stays On show is one of, if not the company’s biggest show of the entire year. The action always comes thick and fast, but that’s not set to phase debutant Edwards.

He said: “I love brutal action! It’s one of the reasons I love wrestling, I can’t wait to get into the ring. The match I’m competing in is very brutal in itself – I’m going to have to compete in a 30-man Royal Rumble followed by a six-man ladder match. To me, that sounds very fun – not just to watch, but to compete in as well.”

Last year’s winner, David Francisco later went on to beat the Battle Pro World Heavyweight Champion, The OJMO, at the Gang Warfare show in October.

Getting a title opportunity at any time over the course of the year has its advantages. The previous two winners of the match, The OJMO and Francisco, have both gone on to win the Battle Pro World Heavyweight Championship. That means there is a success rate of 100% for the winners of Winner Stays On.

In knowing this, Edwards has his eyes set firmly on the carrot dangling in front of him that is clinching the Battle Pro World Heavyweight Championship, but he will need to fight his way through a huge list of other competitors first.

“Never say never,” went Edwards. “It’s my first ever match and all my family and friends are going to be there. It would mean the world for me to win the whole thing in front of them all, and later go on to become the Battle Pro World Heavyweight Champion. I would love to be able to do it!”

Knucklelocks has helped develop some of the finest superstars on the current Battle Pro roster and Edwards is convinced that it is the best ‘Wrestling school in London.’

“I believe that Knucklelocks is the best Wrestling school in London, hands down,” confirmed Edwards. “They’ve helped me become who I am today, I’ve been trained by many of the best including Francisco, Mills, Darrell Allen and WWE NXT UK superstar Eddie Dennis. I’d love to be able to display what they’ve taught me when I make my debut on April 24th.”

With such a talented roster on their hands, Edwards has identified one dream match for him in the future.

“There is a long list of names of men and women that are so talented and deserve so much,” explained Edwards. “But, if we are talking about dream matches, I’d be stupid if I didn’t say The OJMO. He has achieved so much in such a short amount of time. He won the 2019 British J Cup and he is the longest reigning Battle Pro Champion ever.”

“He has stepped into the ring with people such as Walter, PAC and David Starr. And the scary thing is, he is still at the beginning of his career. Even though it looks like he will be moving on to other things, I believe he will still make many Battle Pro appearances in the future and I’d love to be able to go one-on-one with the master of the half crab.”

Battle Pro’s third annual Winner Stays On show takes place on Friday 24th April in Sydenham at the Livesey Memorial Hall, with the opening bell at 7:30pm. Tickets are still available via the link:
