Millwall’s search for an away win this season continues, as they lost 2-0 to Brentford with Sergi Canos and Ollie Watkins getting on the scoresheet.

Shaun Hutchinson had a chance to give the Lions the lead in the opening stages, but his looping header from a corner was tipped over the bar by David Bentley in the Brentford goal.

Later in the half, Brentford’s Said Benrahma had a curling effort from the edge of the penalty area which hit the bar, much to Ben Amos’ relief.

Brilliant Brentford

On 48 minutes Canos scored the opener. The winger was able to beat the offside trap and slot the ball past Amos in the Millwall goal.

Then on 85 minutes Ollie Watkins scored the all-important winner to secure the points. Neal Maupay found Watkins, his touch sent the defenders the wrong way and he was able put the ball in to the back of the net.

Frustrated Manager

After the game Millwall manager Neil Harris expressed his frustration with the result. Speaking to the official Millwall website, Harris said: “I thought we fell a little short in quality today, if I’m honest.”

The Lions boss added: “We are what we are – underdogs and overachievers at this level – but we’re also professionals as well. We have our style of play and we know what we expect at this football club, and what I demand of the players.

“There was nothing in the game today apart from two disappointing goals we gave away, but ultimately we didn’t do enough with the ball. We didn’t show enough composure or quality.”

The result leaves Millwall in 19th place and one point above the relegation zone ahead of their next game away to second-place Norwich City.
