The music world has lost an iconic rock legend this weekend as Taylor Hawkins, drummer in the band Foo Fighters for almost two decades, has tragically died at the age of 50. The cause of his death is yet to be given.

The tremendous loss was announced via Foo Fighters’ Instagram with a statement saying: “The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever.

“Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.”

Before joining the Foo Fighters back in 1997, Hawkins was the touring drummer for singers Alanis Morissette and Sass Jordan. It was while being on stage with Morissette that Dave Grohl, lead singer of Foo Fighters and drummer of Nirvana, noticed Hawkins’ incredible talent. He was later contacted by Grohl to join the band.

The pair were seen to be inseparable with Grohl describing the drummer as “his best friend and partner in crime” in his 2021 autobiography The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music.

Foo Fighters were scheduled to perform on the night of his death, Friday March 25th, at the Festival Estero Picnic in Bogota, Columbia. The band had also announced back in August 2021 that they were to make a return to the UK during the months of June and July, selling out two nights at the London Stadium.

Taylor Hawkins’ incredible talent will never be forgotten by his friends, family and dearest fans.
