The London Lions bounced back from their midweek defeat in Europe by defeating the Surrey Scorchers away from home at the Surrey Sports Park, 85-72.

The Big Three

An all-around positive performance from the Lions produced some very decent defence, as they kept all of the Scorchers players under 20 points in scoring while Isaiah Reese, Jordan Williams, and Dirk Williams all combined for 65 of the team’s 85 points.

On top of his 20 points, Jordan Williams added 10 rebounds and six assists giving himself a double-double on the game while Reese was not too far off of a triple-double himself with 24 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.

Cutting The Lead

The Lions started the game strong by opening the scoring with a three-point shot, from there the Lion’s lead began to increase with good possessional play.

However, as the second half of the first quarter passed by, the Scorchers were starting to close the gap on the London Lions and ended up cutting the Lion’s lead to just six points at the end of the first, 26-20.

Similar to the first quarter, the Lions began the second by making more shots to help increase the lead on the Surrey Scorchers.

It was not long until Surrey were making buckets of their own to help them try and finish the half strong, but they proved to not be as consistent with their shooting as the Lions.

Lions Pounce

The gap between the teams was increasing due to the poor defending attempts shown by the Scorchers any time the London Lions attacked.

The Lions were really testing Surrey’s defence with their good ball movement around the court, ending the third quarter with a nine-point lead, 64-55.

Surrey’s attacks in the fourth quarter were getting turned away due to the well-organised Lions defence causing the Scorchers to run down the play clock in attempts to make a play which in the end resulted in forcing a poor shot anyway.

The Lion’s next BBL Championship match-up is on the 3rd of December at 7.30 pm, against the Newcastle Eagles away from home.
