The London Lions are looking to save their BBL Cup run when they take on rivals, London City Royals on Friday, tip-off 7:30pm at the Copper Box Arena.

Short On Form

The Lions come into this game sitting fifth in the South group while their opponents, the Royals, sit clear at the top, while also remaining the only unbeaten side in the competition so far. This presents as a tough task for the Lions, as they have only one win from their five Cup games so far this season. The home team are looking to bounce back from their heartbreaking 80-77 loss to the Surrey Scorchers on Saturday.

Not The Finished Product

Lions coach Vince Macaulay insists his team is still a work in progress as he spoke after the loss to the Scorchers, telling the Lions’ website, “The fightback was fine but just showed a lack of mental readiness for how poor we were in the first half. Credit to the Scorchers who shot well in the game, but I think we are a work in progress.”

Ones To Watch

The last time these two teams met saw the Royals win 92-77 in October with former Lion, Orlan Jackman leading the way against his former side with 23 points along with six rebounds and four assists.

The Lions will look to their dynamic duo in the form of two-time reigning league MVP Justin Robinson and last season’s Cup final MVP Brandon Peel in hope of getting their cup run back on the road with five games remaining, and put an end to the undefeated streak of the Royals.
