This Week, University of East London women’s hockey team face University College London Women’s 5th in their first match of the BUCS Hockey 2018-2019 South Eastern Conference Plate.

The Blues will be looking to go on a cup run after securing their first win of the season last week, beating the University of Hertfordshire 2nd 1-0 on home turf at the Lee Valley Tennis and Hockey Centre.

Last Time Around

Last year was not a success for UEL in the cup. The team were unable to make it past the first round. For the fixture the team travelled to Portsmouth for an away game, where they were beaten 9-0 by the universities 2nd team.

Back then they were unable to field a full team and did not have a goalkeeper, so an outfield player had to step in. UEL are better prepared this time around and looking to go on a cup run.

Our Opponents

University College London Women’s 5th are in the BUCS Hockey 2018-2019 – Tier 5 – North West London, one below UEL. They currently sit second bottom of their league, with just one win this season, the same as the Blues.

Despite this, it seems they will be a tough side to tackle. In previous years, University College London 5th team has gone further than UEL in the cup, reaching the 5th round last year and 4th in 2016. UEL will look to stop them progressing further.

Fixture Details

The cup clash is scheduled for 13:30pm this Wednesday, 7th November. The fixture is a home match so will be played at home ground and UEL training facility, Lee Valley Tennis and Hockey Centre.
